Modernising the enterprise core without stopping the business

By Arjun Mehta · March 2024

Most enterprise modernisation programmes fail not because the technology choices are wrong, but because they are structured as one-off migrations rather than ongoing capabilities.

The organisations that succeed treat modernisation as a continuous discipline: incremental extraction of legacy functionality behind stable interfaces, investment in automated testing, and a relentless focus on reducing the surface area of risk in each release.

We have found that the single biggest predictor of success is whether the business is willing to fund modernisation as a standing capability rather than a project with a defined end date.
